Dry Hair Home Remedies
The signs of unhealthy hair are easy to pinpoint with many different factors to keep in mind. From lifestyle habits to what you eat, it’s important to recognize the kinds of things that can make your hair dry. Below you will find some of the home remedies for dry hair that have helped people restore and rejuvenate their locks:
a) Condition Your Hair:
Using a conditioner after shampooing your hair can prevent dryness. There are many home remedies for conditioning the hair that you can make.
Replace your normal conditioner with mayonnaise to get deep penetrating results that fights dry hair. A typical amount to use is ½ cup of mayonnaise, but longer hair requires more conditioner. Work in the mayonnaise in the same manner as your regular conditioner, and then leave in your hair for 15 minutes. Best results are achieved when you cover up with a shower cap or plastic wrap. Wash out the mayonnaise with shampoo after 15 minutes have passed.
c) Cover Your Hair:
When you are outside for long periods of time, cover your hair with a hat or scarf to prevent excessive dryness.
d) Gentle Lather:
When lathering your hair during a shampoo, avoid pulling at strands. Don’t use your fingernails to work in the product. Use your fingertips instead and gently rub your scalp, which can stimulate oil glands.
Egg yolks contain essential fatty acids and vitamins that works as an effective conditioner for dry hair. To make a homemade conditioner, beat the egg together and add one tablespoon of water. Apply the egg mixture to dampened hair. Use your fingertips to rub it into the scalp. After using the egg mixture, wash it out with cool water.
f) Decrease Hair Brushing:
Excessive brushing of the hair increases its fragile state and makes it easier to fall out. Never brush your hair when it is wet. Instead, use a comb to carefully remove tangles.
g) Type of Hair Brush:
A brush with rubberized tips can damage dry hair. Opt for a brush with natural or soft bristles.
h) Avoid Heat:
Heat is known to worsen a case of dry hair. Stay away from hot combs and blow dryers. One of the worst things you can do for dry hair is use hot rollers, which stretch your strands while the heat causes a shrinking effect.
i) Blow Dryer Heat Setting:
If you must use a blow dryer on your hair, choose the lowest setting.
j) Cut the Ends:
Dry hair is often worse at the ends. Snipping the very tips once every six weeks can help soften frayed, dry ends.
k) Rubber Cap:
Chlorine is a destructive force against your hair – drying it out with each trip to the swimming pool. Wearing a rubber cap can protect your hair. Elevate the protection by rubbing a bit of olive oil on the hair before putting on the cap.
Use 12 ounces of beer as a final rinse for dry hair, which adds protein to your hair. Work into your hair after shampooing. Add a couple of drops of essential oil to create an inviting scent.
m) Aloe Vera:
Since aloe vera provides moisture to hair, you can rinse with ½ cup of pure aloe vera juice after shampooing to prevent and treat dryness.
Breaking down build up in your hair, vinegar can also regulate the pH level when you mix vinegar with a scented oil to create a daily rinse that removes unwanted components found in your favorite styling products.
o) Air Dry:
Instead of using a blow dryer or towels, air dry your strands to prevent breakage, brittle ends, and dry hair.
p) Baking Soda:
Combine a small amount of baking soda and warm water to clean your hair once or twice per week.
q) Protein in Your Diet:
Increasing the amount of protein in your diet can help reduce damage and dry hair. A few suggestions include eating more soy products, nuts and lean cuts of meat.
Add a small amount of honey to your regular conditioner to increase moisturizing dry hair. Mix one tablespoon of honey after pouring your conditioner in your hand. Rub between your hands to blend the ingredients. Apply the conditioner to your hair and leave in for 15 to 30 minutes. Use lukewarm water to rinse out.
s) Honey and Olive Oil:
Combine equal parts of honey and olive oil to create a moisturizing conditioner. Apply to your hair for 30 minutes.
t) Cocoa Butter:
If you have a container of hard cocoa butter, place ½ cup in the microwave to soften. Spread the cocoa butter into your hair – making sure to rub into the ends. Leave the cocoa butter in your hair for 10 minutes. Follow up with a rinse and shampoo.
u) Avocado and Banana:
The oils found in avocados are effective in conditioning dry hair. Bananas add shine and body. Combine one avocado and one banana with a couple of tablespoons of olive oil. It is preferable to select fruit that is already ripe and softened. Place ingredients in a blender and mix until smooth. Apply to hair after shampooing and allow to sit for 15 minutes. Rinse out with lukewarm water.
v) Vitamin C:
A minor deficiency in vitamin C can cause your hair to become dry . Consider adding guava, bell peppers, strawberries, pineapple, red cabbage, sugar snap peas, watermelon, and berries to your diet.
w) Don’t Overwash Your Hair:
It’s tempting to wash your hair every day, but overwashing strips your hair of vital protective oils. Give your locks a break by decreasing the number of times you wash your hair or switching to a milder shampoo.
