1. Rest – If the pain is caused by an injury to the hip or nearby area, take some rest to allow the body to recuperate. Avoid putting additional stress or pressure on the hip part to hasten the healing process.[1]

2. Ice – Wrap some ice cubes in a clean towel and apply directly onto the hips for 20 to 30 minutes to numb the pain.

3. Elevation – Prop up the legs to allow the blood to flow freely and to reduce swelling.

4. Heat application – Wait for the swelling to subside before using a heating pad to apply heat directly on the affected area.

5. Exercise – Perform light exercise routines to ease the pain and stiffness. Discontinue if any discomfort or pain is experienced.

6. Compression – Wrap an elastic bandage around the hip and pelvis to protect the area from pressure.[2]

7. Hot bath – Prepare a hot bath, but not so hot to scald your skin. As the water gradually cools down, the body benefits from the heat. The bath soothes the joints and muscles also.[3]
