When the veins inside or just outside the anal canal get inflamed, you get a condition known as hemorrhoids or piles. Those occurring inside the rectum are called internal hemorrhoids and those outside, external hemorrhoids. The hemorrhoids symptoms usually include pain, burning, inflammation, irritation and itching. At times, the veins become stretched and may rupture and bleed. Such piles are called bleeding hemorrhoids. Bleeding or not, having hemorrhoids is certainly a bad experience and if you chance to see the picture of hemorrhoids you’d know what we mean.

Causes of hemorrhoids

Chronic constipation is the number one cause of hemorrhoids in most. The force exerted in passing the stool causes intense pressure on the veins leading to this condition. However, it can also be due to prolonged standing or sitting, strenuous work, obesity, mental tension, food allergies, insufficient consumption of dietary fiber and congested liver. In pregnancy, hemorrhoids are caused when the growing uterus puts pressure on the veins. Piles are also common after childbirth.
